The Crescent Moon series, silkscreen on textile, 2024
The Crescent Moon series alludes to the postwar tradition of decorative/household textiles in public spaces and showrooms, drawing on both crafts and textile art. The works were inspired by the proximity of the Teatr Wielki (Grand Theater) and the observation of its lavish interiors, combining natural motifs with its materials. The characteristics of the natural world are reflected not only in the visual forms of the series but also in the materials used, such as natural fibers. In the interiors of the Teatr Wielki, the artist found floral jacquards decorating the lobby upholstery, designed by Hanna Kiedrzyńska-Berbecka, and moon-shaped metalwork decorations around the stage, attributed to Krystyna Król-Dobrowolska. Another inspiration for the series was Jolanta Owidzka’s monumental Whites textile, created for Hotel Victoria and now known only from archival photographs.
