Artwork

The White Canvas Fights with the Picture, oil on canvas, 2016

This picture shows a monochromatic, black-and-white landscape with the outlines of trees and other plants. This an example of the disquieting Romantic nocturne at which the artist excels. The foreground is crossed by vertical lines, which recall the silhouettes of plants illuminated by the flash of a camera. These lines, however, are geometrical and sharp, calling to mind classical abstract painting. In this manner, the artist depicts the “struggle” of the figurative picture with formalist abstract painting.
